Alexi Freeman in the maid's room
A NEW EXHIBITION & THE OFFICIAL LAUNCH OF OUR CITY SPACE ...
Well, that was fun... We just went back through our digital photo archives, intending merely to pick out some images, and found ourselves on a little adventure - a half-decade-long wander through the Times of Alexi Freeman & Milly Sleeping. Since the store began housing Alexi Freeman's eponymous label in 2006, we have done quite a lot in collaboration! Alexi has been a feature or participating artist in a number of our exhibitions, a key organiser of several of our joint off-site sales, as well as a highly-regarded designer and a great supporter of the store and local industry.
This June, at Milly sleeping in the maid's room, Alexi Freeman's diverse talents will be the focus of attention once again, when we present a small but very special exhibition of his recent work, including costumes commissioned by the Australian Ballet for the new Gideon Obarzanek work, There's Definitely a Prince Involved.
The exhibition will run from this Friday, June 08, through the first week of July.
Given the strong relationship between these stunning costumes and AF's latest collection for Spring/Summer 12/13, we will also be hosting a preview showing of a selection of samples borrowed from Alexi's Fitzroy studio - for two days only..!
Friday June 15 & Saturday June 16 at Milly sleeping in the maid's room, between 12 and 6pm.
Visitors placing pre-orders will be eligible for 15% off the RRP of their selection/s.
These rare activities will surround the official launch of our city residence at Crossley Street. Our haus-mates in the maid's room, S!X, have also recently shifted their bespoke studio to Von Haus and, down the hall, Sarah Scout have a new exhibition to open, featuring the work of Melbourne artists Anna Finlayson, Charles O'Loughlin and Mark Wingrave. Thus, we are all joining together for a more-the-merrier reception. There will be champagne ...
Saturday June 16, from 3 - 5pm.
... And we would love to see you. Please send your enquiries and RSVPs to email@example.com
But first, a little look at the past...

Pictured above are a selection of Alexi Freeman artwork and garments from past to present, styled in some instances with pieces by other Milly Sleeping designers. All photographs were taken by Milly Sleeping at Milly Sleeping and surrounds, except for the final image which was taken at the Powerhouse Museum in Sydney during the Love Lace exhibition, in which the gown made by AF and Tessa Blazey was a favoured finalist.
